Workshops and training
Macquarie University provides a range of learning skills support and training to assist research candidates from all faculties in developing essential skills in academic literacy, research methods and professional development. Most of these resources are free for current MQ HDR candidates; for those which attract a fee, MGSM candidates should consider use of their research funding.
Available courses can be found on the HDR Learning Skills Support page. This page provdes useful links not only to HDR Workshops and Courses but to Research Writing groups, Online Resources and other HDR Training Opportunities. Enquiries regarding HDR training courses and support should be directed to HDR Learning Skills.
Macquarie University is a member of ACSPRI (Australian Consortium for Social and Political Research Inc). This body acts as a collection point and resource for researchers. It runs a number of research training courses including SEM and NVIVO. Students wishing to undertake courses at ACSPRI are eligible for members’ rates. Details of upcoming courses can be found on the ACSPRI website. Before applying for a course please contact the MGSM Research Office for information on when the next NVIVO and SEM workshops are scheduled to be held at MGSM.
HDR statistical consulting service
Statistical advice should be sought early in your candidature to minimise the occurrence of later problems. Advice on data analysis and interpretation is available from MQ's Department of Statistics.
Please contact Associate Professor Peter Petocz (9850 9174).
English language problems
Currently enrolled candidates wishing to take further English language courses can do so by contacting the Centre for Macquarie English (CME). CME is the English Language Centre of Macquarie University Sydney and is one of the largest English language centres in Australia.
In order to ensure that MGSM Doctoral candidates’ writing skills meet the standards for Higher Degree Research study, MGSM from time to time advises individual doctoral students to undertake courses in English language writing and literacy skills.
These referrals are discussed with the MGSM Director HDR, who may advise the HDR student to attend individual coaching sessions provided by MGSM Research, or the student may be referred to attend courses offered by Macquarie University.
