Stephen Carpenter

Unit Taught:  MGSM870 Organisational Behaviour

Stephen graduated with a BA Honours Social Studies (upper second class) from Liverpool John Moores University in 1990 and completed his MBA at Macquarie Business School (MGSM) in 2008.

Stephen is General Manager, Education Delivery at Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand and is responsible for the operational and commercial delivery of the Education programme to the global membership body.

Previously he spent 10 years as an Operations Manager and General Manager in the SME sector, predominantly in the conferences, exhibitions and events industry, managing organisational change and restructuring; and driving continuous improvements across all areas of business operations to deliver sustainable profit growth.

Prior to this he lived and worked in Japan where he held senior education management roles with responsibility for an international teaching and administrative staff of over 150 full-time and part-time employees; including 20 direct reports. He ran project teams responsible for the development and implementation of regional teacher training and development courses and managed the development and roll out of commercial education programmes across 20 regional branches.

Stephen has broad leadership and management experience in diverse multinational and multicultural working environments and real, hands on practical experience in managing all facets of a business across multiple geographic and departmental areas. All of which ensures Stephen will bring a good balance of the theoretical and the practical to the classroom.

Brad Smith

Unit Taught:  MGSM960 Information and Decision Analysis

Brad comes to teaching, training and consulting after a successful career in engineering and management. His last position was the Business Segment Manager-Environment with Alfa Laval, a multi-national engineering company. Prior to Alfa Laval, Brad held quality management and product development roles with several manufacturing companies.

He has a mix of analytical skills, technical knowledge and a collaborative communication style. Brads training and teaching sessions are practical, full of humour and games that are designed to impart the important skills and knowledge associated with often "dry" topics in an entertaining manner. These skills enable Brad to work with companies and students at all levels to impart the key knowledge required to identify and implement real improvements to efficiency and profitability.

He facilitates training sessions and classes with senior and middle managers on:

  • Operations Management,
  • Total Quality Management,
  • Supply Chain Management,
  • Data Analysis,
  • Business Statistics and
  • Decision Making.

As a consultant he has worked with a diverse range of companies including:

  • CSR,
  • Pirtek Fluids Systems,
  • Philips Lighting,
  • ACNielsen,
  • Cordina Chickens,
  • Snap-On Tools,
  • NSW Department of Agriculture,
  • Thermoline Scientific,

Brad's experience in process improvement includes administrative, customer service and production environments. His solutions are practical, the result of many years of hands-on management experience. Brad has many years' experience developing, implementing and auditing Quality Assurance and OHS Systems.

Randal Tame

Unit taught: Public Performance for Managers

Managing Director, RDP Strategy Group

Randal and his firm provide advisory services to directors and executives on high stakes issues including:

  • M&A’s,
  • strategy development,
  • leadership succession and development and,
  • stakeholder communication.

They currently work with clients in government, public utilities, consulting, law, law enforcement, publishing, banking, insurance, and public health.

His career background includes five years as Manager of Consulting at Rogen International, and 4 years as a consultant at PA Consulting Group. Prior to PA Consulting, Randal spent ten years in sales and marketing roles in the computer and oil industries.

Randal is an adjunct lecturer in management and teaches on executive and award programs including:

  • Public Performance for Managers,
  • Strategic Frameworks,
  • Persuasive Communication,
  • Foundations of General Management,
  • Leadership and Motivation and,
  • NSW Police Strategic Leadership Program.

Randal has a BA in psychology, an MBA from Macquarie Graduate School of Management and a Post MBA extension grad cert. He is currently pursuing doctoral studies in leadership at the University of Queensland.

Dr Peter Fuda

Professor Fuda holds a doctorate in Business Administration, a Master’s degree in Marketing and Management, and a First Class honours degree in History.

Research Statement

Professor Fuda is regarded as a global authority on leadership and business transformation. As a thought leader, his research and approaches to transformation have been published on five continents. He is the first Australian ever published on transformation in the prestigious Harvard Business Review. He is the Executive Producer of the documentary film Beyond The Superhero; currently licensed to Qantas, and recently completed his first book Leadership Transformed; How Ordinary Managers Become Extraordinary Leaders; which is an international best-seller.

Professor Fuda has completed countless speaking engagements to tens of thousands of senior executives on four continents, is a regular commentator across print, TV and radio media, and his doctoral research is now required reading at universities from Taiwan to the USA, including at Harvard.

Contribution to Management Practice

As a management consultant, Professor Fuda and his team at The Alignment Partnership (TAP) have created some 30 published case studies of business transformation, and more than 500 individual case studies of leadership transformation in blue chip organisations including MasterCard, Kraft, Westpac, Telstra, Philips, Bayer, Promina, CSC, Suncorp, Peabody, Crown Casino, Dun & Bradstreet, Thiess, and The Hong Kong and Queensland governments. In an environment where an estimated 70% of all business transformations fail, TAP have achieved a success rate of more than 90% over the past decade.

As a leadership coach, Professor Fuda has enabled more than 200 CEOs to measurably increase their leadership effectiveness and performance.

Filip Hron

Unit taught:  MGSM884 Negotiation Theory & Practice

Filip is co-author, with former chief police hostage negotiators in Australia (NSW) and Czech Republic, of Negotiation Evolved, a comprehensive book on situational negotiation and influence.

He has worked as a negotiation expert for several negotiation companies, and directly for clients in resources, technology, finance, FMCG, not-for-profit, and private equity. He has also advised on a range of commercial negotiations in the $10m-$10bn range. Repeatedly achieving participant evaluations with 5.0/5.0.

Filip has lectured and presented at all levels (Executive Education, Executive MBA, MBA, postgraduate, undergraduate) on behalf of a range of universities and business schools, including:

  • INSEAD (France, Abu Dhabi, Singapore),
  • UTS Graduate School of Business,
  • Australian School of Business at University of New South Wales,

Filip is co-founder of the initiative for an International Center On Negotiation (ICON), an exciting journey of networking that involved connecting with 60+ professional negotiators and academics in negotiation worldwide. This initiative has already created a wide array of opportunities for collaboration.

Filip also conducts coaching on personal development in negotiation and influence to c-level executives and managers in Australia and abroad.

Peter McDonald

Unit Taught: MGSM820 Marketing Management

Peter McDonald is an experienced marketing practitioner and currently Adjunct Professor, Boston University, Sydney, teaching Brand Advertising & Promotion, and International Marketing Management. In tandem, he is CEO of Australia’s leading agency selection consultancy, Pitch Perfect Advisors.

He previously taught marketing/advertising subjects at Sydney University, UTS and Charles Sturt University – earning ‘Teaching Excellence’ awards from the latter two universities. His business experience encompasses North America, Australia and the Asia Pacific region where he successfully performed brand, marketing communications, and advertising agency management roles.

Early in his career, Peter lived, worked & studied (part-time) in North America, and ever since he has encouraged many colleagues and students to do likewise. For him, the benefits of personal growth and developing a ‘global mind-set’ far outweigh any culture shock you might initially experience.

Peter has a B Com (Marketing), MBA (International Business), and has recently completed a PhD (Thesis under examination) at Macquarie Business School (MGSM), with a specific focus on branding in the retail sector. He has also co-authored a number of journal articles on sources of brand equity and brand portfolio management.

Nigel Barker

Unit Taught:  MGSM820 Marketing Management, MGSM817 Strategic Marketing

Nigel Barker is a freelance lecturer working for a number of institutions in Australia, Asia and Europe. An entertaining and enthusiastic lecturer, Nigel is on the adjunct faculty with:

  • The University of Adelaide,
  • Bond University,
  • Macquarie Graduate School of Management,
  • the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management (Germany),
  • Toulouse Business School (France and Spain),
  • Kingston University (UK and Russia) and
  • ASSIST (S.Korea).

He regularly takes classes in Australia and throughout Asia and Europe.

Following his move from the UK in 1997, where he held a range of marketing positions, Nigel gained his Masters in Marketing from Charles Sturt University. He now teaches a range of undergraduate and postgraduate marketing classes, while still remaining passionate about branding and marketing communication topics.

Nigel is co-author on a leading Advertising and Promotion text, now in its fourth edition, as well as providing instructor materials for other marketing publications, and provides consulting services to a range of organisations.

JP Monck

Units Taught: MGSM845 Economic Context of Management

JP graduated with a Bachelor of Economics and Bachelor of Commerce (Marketing and Asian Studies) from Murdoch University, a Master of Law and Legal Practice from the University of Technology, Sydney and completed his MBA at Macquarie Business School (MGSM) in 2012. He is currently completing a Doctor of Philosophy in Management at the University of Sydney.

His work experience traverses banking, corporate, government and professional services entities, including significant periods with PwC Austraila, the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA), and the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. He currently serves as a Director in Financial Risk Management Advisory at KPMG.

Having worked in Financial Services in Australia and throughout East and South-East Asia over 12 years, JP has unique practical experience and theoretical insight into the macroeconomic landscape that Australia is faced with. He is passionate about bringing this to life and sharing it in the classroom at Macquarie Business School (MGSM).
